Smoky Quartz is a grey to brown variety of silicon dioxide (SiO₂), with coloration produced by natural irradiation acting on aluminum-bearing quartz to create color centers in the crystal lattice. It shares the trigonal crystal system and Mohs 7 hardness of all quartz varieties. Color ranges from pale grey through rich chocolate-brown to near-black ('morion'), depending on irradiation intensity and aluminum concentration. These small natural points are unpolished and sourced from Brazil's prolific quartz-producing regions in Minas Gerais. 4oz lot.
Origin: Brazil | Crystal System: Trigonal | Hardness: 7 | Composition: SiO₂ (Al-bearing, irradiated)
Associated with the root chakra, smoky quartz is considered a grounding stone in metaphysical traditions — said to transmute and neutralize dense or stagnant energies.
