Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral [Cu₂(CO₃)(OH)₂] crystallizing in the monoclinic system at Mohs 3.5–4. Its vivid banded green coloration is produced by copper in the crystal structure — the same element responsible for the green of verdigris and the Statue of Liberty's patina. Malachite forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of copper ore deposits, commonly associated with azurite, chrysocolla, and cuprite. The characteristic concentric banding visible in polished specimens reflects growth patterns in botryoidal (grape-like) or stalactitic masses. Bulk tumbled lot, hand-selected for quality and color saturation.
