A natural plant fossil of Liaoningocladus boii, a broad-leaved conifer preserved in fine lacustrine sediment from the Yixian Formation of Liaoning Province, China.
This species dates to the Early Cretaceous, roughly 125 million years ago, and comes from the same rock unit famous for producing the exceptionally preserved Jehol Biota - including feathered dinosaurs, early birds, and early mammals.
The specimen shows the parallel-veined, lance-shaped foliage typical of this conifer, preserved in fine detail on the matrix. Liaoningocladus boii is notable among paleobotanists for its broad, entire-margined leaves - an unusual form among ancient conifers, most of which had narrow needle-like foliage.
