A charming hand-carved owl fashioned from genuine Mexican amber, displaying a dramatic combination of deep brown-black and warm golden honey tones. The natural variation in the amber shows off in this piece.
Fine carved details throughout the wings, breast, eyes, and facial features give this small piece remarkable character and depth.
As shown beside a U.S. penny, this is a petite carving, making the amount of detail particularly impressive. When illuminated, the lighter areas take on the warm, glowing quality for which Mexican amber is prized, contrasting beautifully against the nearly opaque darker portions of plant material.
A wonderful miniature for an amber collection, owl collector, or anyone who appreciates small-scale lapidary and carving work.
Scientific
Mexican amber from Chiapas is fossilized plant resin associated with extinct trees of the Hymenaea genus and dates primarily to the Early Miocene, roughly 20–25+ million years ago. Its colors naturally range from transparent yellow and orange through red, green, brown, and nearly black, with Mexican standards recognizing black and chocolate-brown among the distinct color classifications of Chiapas amber.
Metaphysical
Amber is traditionally associated with warmth, vitality, protection, and the transformation of stagnant or negative energy, while darker amber is often connected with grounding and stability. Combined with the owl's longstanding symbolism of wisdom, insight, and seeing beyond the obvious, this carving makes a meaningful piece for contemplation or personal display.
