Lepidolite: The Calming Lithium Mica

Lepidolite has a quiet, understated beauty — a soft lilac to lavender color with a subtle pearly shimmer where the light catches its layered structure. That structure is the key to what lepidolite actually is: a lithium-rich member of the mica mineral group [K(Li,Al)₃(Si,Al)₄O₁₀(F,OH)₂], crystallizing in thin, flexible sheets with perfect basal cleavage.

The lavender color comes from trace manganese within the crystal lattice, and lepidolite forms primarily in granitic pegmatites — mineral-rich rock formations that also produce tourmaline, spodumene, and other collector favorites. It sits at a Mohs hardness of 2.5–3, soft enough that its micaceous sheets can sometimes be gently separated by hand, revealing the pearly luster on the cleaved surface. Beyond its role as a display and collector stone, lepidolite is also a commercially significant source of lithium ore.

Our lepidolite comes from Brazil, tumbled to a smooth finish that highlights the stone's color and shimmer without sharp edges. In metaphysical traditions, lepidolite's natural lithium content has long linked it to emotional calm and stress relief — a gentle stone often associated with the heart chakra and used for quiet reflection.
